En el estado de Iowa, se han perdido la producción de unos 5 millones de acres de cultivos de maíz y soya, entre otros.
El cultivo de maíz en la localidad de Blairstown, Iowa, se ha visto afectado por la crecida del río Mississippi y por las lluvias continuas en el último mes.
Las aguas del río Iowa inundan completamente la población de Oakville, Iowa.
Las aguas abrieron brechas en dos terraplenes en el Oeste de Illinois, unos 70 kilómetros al Sur de la localidad de Gulfport.
"Es algo que destroza el corazón: uno trabaja duro y por tanto tiempo y todo queda en nada", dijo Glenn Orr, quien ha cultivado una granja en el área de Meyer por casi toda su vida.
La brecha en un terraplén junto al Mississippi en Burlington, Iowa, dio un alivio a los residentes del área de Grafton, en Illinois, que están río abajo.
Los casi 50 habitantes de Meyer fueron evacuados y se calcula que las aguas cubrirán unos 125 kilómetros cuadrados de tierras cultivadas.

El agua rebasó nueve terraplenes artificiales y anegó tierras de agricultura.
En el Oeste Medio de Estados Unidos, las inundaciones afectan desde la semana pasada y los daños son incontables hasta el momento.
