Miles de palestinos irrumpen en Egipto

Pese a que entre los palestinos se ha corrido la voz de que no se puede llegar a Al Arish -principal población del Sinaí y punto de acceso al resto de Egipto-, muchos intentan hacerse pasar por egipcios y se suben en los microbuses colectivos, donde los avispados chóferes les cobran hasta tres veces el precio de un billete.
Lo más difícil, además de encontrar provisiones, es abandonar Rafah hacia otros lugares de Egipto, ya que la Policía ha sellado todos los accesos a esta ciudad y solo permite el tráfico normal entre ella y la frontera.
Miles de palestinos entran a Egipto para conseguir bienes de primera necesidad, debido al bloqueo impuesto por Israel.
La gasolina -el bien más buscado por los palestinos- ya ha se ha agotado en las estaciones de Rafah, y en los pueblos colindantes hay que esperar hasta dos horas para llenar el depósito.
Varios palestinos compran panecillos en Rafah, frontera entre Egipto y la Franja de Gaza.
A través de Rafah tiene salida al exterior el millón y medio de habitantes de la Franja. Pasan a diario alrededor de mil 318 palestinos.
La ciudad egipcia de Rafah, contigua a la frontera, se había convertido en un barrizal, y aunque quedan algunas tiendas abiertas, no tiene nada que ver con el frenesí comercial de hace varios días.
Cientos de personas de la izquierda israelí, árabes israelí y seguidores de organismos internacionales marcharon con alimentos hasta el cruce de Erez para mostrar su solidaridad con los palestinos de la Franja de Gaza que continúan cruzando a Egipto, para comprar productos.
A pesar de las medidas de seguridad y de los puestos policiales, decenas de palestinos siguen burlando los controles y llegando a Al Arish gracias a los atajos del desierto y a la valiosa ayuda de los beduinos.
Rafah está bajo control palestino, se halla al sur de Gaza y es frontera con Egipto.
Tras presiones internacionales, el 22 de enero el ministro israelí de Defensa, Ehud Barak, autorizó sólo la entrada de alimentos básicos y medicinas para evitar una crisis, si bien no fue suficiente ya que 100 mil palestinos derribaron la barrera de metal que fija el límite entre el paso de Rafah y Egipto y entraron en avalancha en este segundo país para aprovisionarse de víveres.
El 18 de enero de 2008 las autoridades israelíes cerraron todos los pasos, en represalia por el lanzamiento de cohetes Kasam por parte de los palestinos. Esta mediada dejó a la población de la Franja sin alimentos, combustible y al borde de una catástrofe humanitaria.
