Cientos de agentes se encargaron de controlar los accesos al teatro para garantizar la seguridad de un acontecimiento que ha llevado a los principales diarios italianos a editar especiales dedicados a la reapertura de La Scala y comercializar discos de óperas grabadas en el recinto.
Una multitud de curiosos se agolpó durante la tarde para ver pasar a los asistentes a esta ópera, que abre la temporada en La Scala, después de que las tres anteriores se hayan desarrollado en el moderno y funcional teatro Arcimboldi, en las afueras de la ciudad.
En el transcurso de su historia, La Scala se había cerrado una vez, en 1943 con motivo de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, por lo que la pausa de estos tres últimos años ha sido vivida de manera especial por los milaneses.
Luca Ronconi es el director de la ópera, interpretada por la soprano alemana Diana Damrau en el papel principal y que es una rehabilitación de la figura de Salieri, compositor minusvalorado en la comparación con su coetáneo Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
El director artístico del teatro, Riccardo Muti, sacó la batuta para ponerse al frente de la orquesta de La Scala y hacer sonar las notas de Europa Riconosciuta, en una simbólica mirada a la inauguración de hace 226 años.
Más de 30 meses de obras y 55 millones de euros han servido para modificar de manera sustancial el teatro milanés, no en su fachada, sino en su interior, donde se ha instalado una tarima flotante para mejorar la acústica, así como moderna maquinaria para el escenario, y se han limpiado todos los elementos decorativos del recinto.
Los primeros ministros de Albania, Fatos Nano, y Croacia, Ivo Sanader, también estuvieron presentes, así como el presidente de la Confederación Helvética, Joseph Deiss.
En ausencia del presidente de la República, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, que está en China en viaje oficial, el jefe del Ejecutivo, Silvio Berlusconi, y siete de sus ministros, acudieron a la “prima”, junto a personalidades de diversos ámbitos, desde poderosos empresarios a importantes diseñadores de moda, como Giorgio Armani, sin olvidar a artistas como Sofía Loren.
La reapertura del histórico teatro lírico, uno de los más importantes del mundo, ha estado rodeada de una gran expectación y se ha convertido en un acontecimiento social.
El teatro de La Scala de Milán volvió la mirada atrás, en su reapertura después de tres años de obras, ya que las notas de Europa Riconosciuta -de Antonio Salieri- sonaron de nuevo, como en su inauguración oficial el tres de agosto de 1778.
