La celebración en Chile se inició en la Plaza de Armas de Santiago y continuó en el emblemático Mercado Central, una actividad que estuvo acompañada en todo momento por una caravana cultural que exhibió bailes y música típica del norte, centro y sur de Chile.
"La temática puesta en carpeta por la OMT busca promover la diversidad cultural en todo el mundo, en todas sus formas".
Longueira y el Director Nacional de Turismo, Álvaro Castilla, que encabezaron una actividad cultural en Santiago, profundizaron "en la necesidad de insistir en la comprensión de los valores de la diversidad cultural".
El ministro de Economía, Fomento y Turismo, Pablo Longueira, afirmó que "como Gobierno, tenemos el desafío de aumentar la llegada de turistas extranjeros al país pasando de los actuales 2,750,000 a 4,000,000 el 2014".
El Gobierno de Chile celebró el Día Mundial del Turismo con el desafío de aumentar la llegada de turistas extranjeros a esta nación austral en un 45 %, hasta los cuatro millones de personas en 2014.
