En la ceremonia con motivo del décimo aniversario de los ataques del 11 de septiembre, casi 5,000 personas escucharon la lectura de los nombres de los pasajeros y tripulantes muertos, entre tañidos de campanas.
El presidente Barack Obama y su esposa Michelle colocaron una ofrenda floral ante el monumento al Vuelo 93.
La voz de los familiares se entrecortó mientras recordaban a los padres, madres, hijos, hermanos, tíos o abuelos que perdieron la vida en el mayor atentado terrorista de la historia de Estados Unidos y que una década después "todavía parece que fuera ayer", según expresó otra de las víctimas.
Como en cada aniversario desde que se produjeron los atentados, los nombres de las 2,983 víctimas fueron leídos por sus propios familiares, una actividad que transcurrió con la música como telón de fondo del chelo de Yo-Yo Ma, las guitarras de James Taylor y Paul Simon y la flauta de Emi Ferguson.
Allí, en la nueva "zona cero" que trata de olvidar el humo y los escombros que se hicieron con esa área diez años atrás, los familiares pudieron leer los nombres de quienes perdieron la vida en los atentados a las Torres Gemelas.
Los familiares de las víctimas vieron fluir el agua en las dos inmensas fuentes construidas donde alguna vez se erigieron las Torres Gemelas, y la desesperación por el lento ritmo de la reconstrucción latente en otros aniversarios quedó de lado al ver por fin el Memorial del 11-S inaugurado oficialmente.
Vestido de negro, al igual que la primera dama, el presidente leyó solemnemente el Salmo 46 de la Biblia, escogido, según la Casa Blanca, por ser especialmente apropiado para el momento.
En Nueva York, acompañado de su esposa, Michelle, y de su predecesor en el cargo, George W Bush, y la ex primera dama Laura Bush, Obama guardó un solemne minuto de silencio, junto a todos los presentes, en el parque construido en la "zona cero".
"Dios es nuestro amparo y fortaleza, nuestro pronto auxilio en las tribulaciones. Por tanto, no temeremos, aunque la tierra sea removida, y se traspasen los montes al corazón del mar", dijo Obama.
Al cumplirse el décimo aniversario del peor ataque terrorista sufrido por EE.UU., Obama quiso dejar todo el protagonismo a los familiares de las cerca de 3,000 víctimas de aquella jornada aciaga.
Exactamente diez años después de los atentados que conmocionaron al mundo, Nueva York conmemoró el más simbólico de los aniversarios del 11-S desde la nueva "zona cero", donde las familias lloraron unidas por primera vez en el parque en memoria de los casi tres mil fallecidos en los ataques.
