Alerta en EU por crecida del río Misisipi

Advierten a los residentes tomar precauciones en los siguientes dos días y estar preparados para evacuar si se reside a una distancia de 90 metros de ríos.
El nivel del río Misisipi podría alcanzar su récord en 70 años. El máximo nivel alcanzado fue en 1937.
La cresta de la crecida del Misisipí alcanzó hoy la ciudad de Memphis, en Tenesí, donde cientos de familias tuvieron que ser evacuadas al llegar el nivel del agua hasta 14.6 metros, según informaron las autoridades.

El albergue de emergencia para animales operado por la Oficina de Preparación en Shelby reportó que mantiene bajo su protección a 65 perros, 18 gatos y 15 cachorros y dos patos.
Los afluentes del río han llevado volúmenes inusuales de agua producto del deshielo en lugares más altos como Wisconsin y Ohio, y también debido a la fuerte temporada de lluvias, por lo que los expertos estiman que el nivel del río se normalizará hasta junio próximo.
El alcalde A.C. Warthon destacó por su parte que equipos de atención a desastres ya están operando en Memphis y llevarán a cabo todo lo necesario para mantener a la población a salvo.
El meteorológico mantuvo en su página de internet un mensaje de emergencia con advertencias de los alcaldes de Memphis y el condado de Shelby desde el domingo pasado.
El SMN también emitió una alerta de inundaciones para el río Tennessee -un importante afluente del Misisipi- hasta el próximo sábado.
El Servicio Avanzado de Predicción Hidrológica del SMN mantiene alerta de “inundaciones mayores” en las próximas 48 horas en Memphis, Osceola, Caruthersville y Tiptonville en el estado de Tennessee.

El río alcanzó en Memphis, Tennessee, 14.5 metros de profundidad, muy por encima del nivel de inundaciones.
La crecida del río Misisipi en EU alcanzó su punto más alto hoy por lo que la alerta de inundaciones mayores en las próximas 48 horas continúa en varias ciudades de los estados de Tennessee, Arkansas y Missouri.
