Los haitianos recordaron con la suelta de cientos de globos blancos y un minuto de silencio el trágico momento en el que hace un año un devastador terremoto arrasó gran parte de Puerto Príncipe.
Al menos un millón de desplazados, 380 mil de ellos niños, siguen viviendo en unos mil 200 campamentos de carpas y casillas.
Los grupos humanitarios dicen que apenas se ha retirado un 5% de los escombros y que la capital está cubierta con unos 20 millones de metros cúbicos de restos de cemento y hierro.
Un total de 19 fotos que abordan episodios de la catástrofe que sufrió el país caribeño por el terremoto, entre ellas la ganadora del Premio Nacional de Periodismo 2010, 'Gracias señor por estar vivos', de José Luis Salmerón, conforma la muestra 'Haití: un año después'.
En lugar del tránsito habitual, las calles estuvieron repletas de personas vestidas de blanco, el color del duelo en Haití.
El país hizo un minuto de silencio a las 16:53 horas, la hora en que el terremoto arrasó el país hace exactamente un año.
Miles de personas se reunieron en varias partes de la ciudad para estar con sus seres queridos y rezar.
Las voces de los sobrevivientes estaban llenas de esperanza luego de pasar un año que parecía empeorar a cada paso.
La población rezó, cantó, leyó la Biblia y alzó la vista y los brazos al cielo para agradecer que, un año después, estaban con vida.
Benedicto XVI pidió al pueblo de Haití convertirse en protagonista de su reconstrucción y de su futuro.
El paisaje casi sigue siendo el mismo que dejó el terremoto, debido a que las fuertes necesidades de los damnificados siguen acaparando los esfuerzos de reconstrucción.
El secretario general de la ONU, Ban Ki-moon, urgió a la comunidad internacional a redoblar su compromiso con el país antillano.
Al pie de los muros derruidos y los rosetones destrozados, se celebró una eucaristía que conmovió por su silencio y recogimiento.
Puerto Príncipe se entregó a la fe de forma masiva. Miles de personas recorrieron las principales calles de la capital para recordar que hace un año lo perdieron todo y su vida volvió a empezar bajo un trozo de plástico.
