Familiares de las víctimas del 11-S hacieron una ofrenda floral en la zona cero en el noveno aniversario de los atentados, en Nueva York, Estados Unidos.
Entre ambos minutos de silencio, las iglesias y otros centros de culto hicieron sonar sus campanas poco antes de que comenzara la emotiva lectura de los nombres de las 2.752 personas que perecieron en los ataques al World Trade Center.
Soldados estadounidenses en Afganistan, recordaron los ataques con una convivencia y una carrera.
Los atentados extendieron la confusión en todos los Estados Unidos.
Los atentados del 11 de septiembre del 2001 fueron descritos por el Consejo de Seguridad de Naciones Unidas como horrendos ataques terroristas.
Este atentado se caracterizó por el empleo de aviones como armamento, creando una situación de temor mayor en todo el mundo occidental y dando comienzo a la Guerra contra el terrorismo.
Los atentados del 11 de septiembre de 2001, comúnmente denominados 11-S en España y Latinoamérica, fueron una serie de atentados suicidas que implicaron el secuestro de cuatro aviones de pasajeros por parte de 19 miembros de la red yihadista Al-Qaeda.
Este acto se celebró en el parque Zucotti, junto al solar donde se edifica el nuevo WTC.
'Ninguna otra tragedia pública ha rasgado nuestra ciudad de una forma tan profunda', dijo el alcalde de Nueva York, Michael Bloomberg, antes de pedir a los asistentes que se unieran al homenaje en recuerdo de las víctimas.
Como cada año y tras una breve introducción musical, la ceremonia se inició con sendos minutos de silencio coincidiendo con los momentos en que cada uno de los aviones comerciales se estrelló contra las Torres Gemelas.
Hace nueve años murieron en un sólo día de más de dos mil 700 personas.
Nueva York conmemoró el aniversario de los ataques terroristas del 11 de septiembre de 2001 con una solemne ceremonia junto a la zona cero de Manhattan.
