Chocan trenes de pasajeros en India

Los pobladores de la zona de Agra, donde está situado el Taj Mahal, y soldados del ejército emplazados en el área ayudaron a la policía y personal ferroviario en el rescate de los heridos.
En el vagón aplastado que estaba reservado para mujeres y personas minusválidas, se hallaron varias víctimas.
Las cuadrillas de ayuda recogieron 19 cadáveres durante la operación de rescate que duró casi siete horas, dijo el vocero policial Rajesh Dikshit.
Aunque la India cuenta con una amplia red ferroviaria y los ferrocarriles son un medio de transporte fundamental, la infraestructura se ha quedado muy anticuada, y los retrasos y accidentes son frecuentes.
El siniestro ha causado retrasos y las cancelaciones de algunos de los más importantes expresos del país, como el expreso Rajdhani, que une Nueva Delhi con Bombay.
Al lugar del accidente se desplazaron patrullas de la Policía, efectivos del Ejército, oficiales administrativos y camiones de bomberos, que trabajan ante la mirada de decenas de curiosos y viajeros de los trenes afectados.
Equipos han rescatado a pasajeros del vagón dañado, tras abrir varios compartimentos usando cortadores industriales.
La ministra de Ferrocarriles, Mamata Banerjee, anunció indemnizaciones de 500.000 rupias (unos 10 mil 750 dólares) para las familias de los fallecidos, y de 100.000 rupias (unos dos mil 150 dólares) para los heridos.
El Expreso de Goa colisionó por detrás con el Expreso de Mewar, que se encontraba parado en una señal, y causó daños en un vagón de este último tren y el descarrilamiento de otros dos vagones.
El accidente ocurrió en a la altura de la ciudad de Mathura, situada en la región de Uttar y a unos 55 kilómetros de la turística ciudad de Agra, según distintos medios.
"Ha sido confirmadas 23 muertes. La condición de algunos heridos es crítica e inestable. El número (de víctimas) puede subir. Los trabajos de rescate continúan ya que los cadáveres deber ser extraídos del convoy", dijo un funcionario del Ministerio de Ferrocarriles.
Al menos 23 personas han muerto y 20 más han resultado heridas en el choque de dos trenes de pasajeros en la ruta que une las ciudades de Nueva Delhi y Agra, en el norte de la India.
