Arrasa incendio con 34 mil hectáreas en California

El Servicio Meteorológico Nacional emitió una alerta para condiciones extremas que fue activada en las montañas del centro y el sur de California.
Los bomberos concentraron su atención en el fuego que avanzaba rápidamente hacia el este, donde amenazaba el centro de astronomía y comunicaciones del Monte Wilson.
El fuego creó una lluvia de ceniza sobre los autos, que llegó hasta el centro de Los Ángeles y se propagó en todas direcciones en medio de condiciones cálidas y secas del tiempo.
Hay un total de ocho incendios en California, el más grande en las colinas al norte de Los Ángeles.
El fuego ha quemado ya 18 casas y avanza hacia el norte, el sur y el este de los montes al noreste de Los Ángeles.
El fuego ha originado una enorme columna de humo que se ha podido ver durante todo el fin de semana desde la ciudad de Los Ángeles, donde los gestores municipales recomendaron evitar las actividades deportivas debido a la mala calidad del aire.
El gobernador de California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, declaró el condado de Los Ángeles en estado de emergencia, lo que permitió a las autoridades acceder a los fondos especiales creados para situaciones de peligro.
Uno de los puntos críticos es la cima del monte Wilson, a más de mil 700 metros de altitud, donde se ubican numerosos repetidores de comunicaciones que envían señal al condado de Los Ángeles.
Un destacamento de bomberos pasó la noche allí a la espera de que el incendio llegue finalmente amenazar la integridad de ese centro de transmisiones.
Las altas temperaturas, la pendiente del terreno y la densidad de vegetación en el área, llena de arbustos y maleza durante décadas, han hecho que los equipos de extinción desistiesen de atacar el frente de las llamas y se dedicasen a establecer cortafuegos.
La tragedia golpeó la moral de los más de dos mil 500 bomberos que trabajan sobre el terreno apoyados por 12 helicópteros y ocho avionetas cisterna.
El incendio costó la vida a dos miembros de los equipos de extinción, que murieron después de el vehículo en el que viajaban se despeñase.
El último parte de bomberos señalaba que, además de los 18 inmuebles afectados, más casas fueron pasto de las llamas, aunque no se cuantificó su número.
El área de riesgo incluye más de 12 mil 500 edificaciones, de las que seis mil 600 fueron ya evacuadas.
El fuego originado en el parque natural Angeles National Park, al noreste de la ciudad de Los Ángeles, amenaza ahora varias localidades, desde Acton hasta Altadena, ubicadas a lo largo del corredor del valle del Antílope.
Las llamas continúan avanzando en el condado de Los Ángeles donde un incendio incontrolado ha causado la muerte de dos bomberos, arrasado más de 34 mil hectáreas y calcinado decenas de casas.
