Matanza de Columbine, un misterio 10 años después

Hace diez años, dos adolescentes con problemas emocionales y psicológicos sembraron de bombas la la Escuela Secundaria de Colorado Columbine y mataron a 13 personas, hirieron a 24 y se suicidaron.
A una década de la matanza, que dejó 13 personas muertas en la escuela secundaria, familiares de las víctimas y estudiantes se manifestaron en Denver.
Antes del octavo aniversario de la matanza en Columbine, el estudiante Seung-Hui Cho, pertrechado con una pistola automática Glock y otra Walther 22, merodeara por casi tres horas en los alrededores de la Universidad Politécnica de Virginia, donde mató a 33 personas y se suicidó.
Harris y Klebold querían causar una matanza generalizada que superara en violencia a la perpetrada en 1995 por Timoty McVeigh en Oklahoma City.
En la versión apresurada de lo ocurrido en Columbine surgieron rumores: que a una chica la mataron después de responder que sí creía en Dios, o que Klebold y Harris se sentían víctimas de abusos de otros estudiantes.
La matanza de Columbine provocó un enorme despliegue de medios audiovisuales, sobre todo cuando los equipos de operaciones especiales de la policía rodearon la escuela, ayudaron a decenas de alumnos, empleados y maestros a escapar, y encontraron muertos a Klebold y Harris.
Hace justo dos años, se vio superada también por la masacre en la Universidad Politécnica de Virginia, que causó 32 muertos y decenas de heridos.
El resultado fue la tercera matanza escolar más mortífera en la historia de Estados Unidos después de la ocurrida en 1927 en la escuela Bath de Michigan (45 muertos, 58 heridos), y la ocurrida en 1966 en la Universidad de Texas (14 muertos, 32 heridos).
El 20 de abril de 1999, Harris con una camiseta en la que se leía "Natural Selection", y Klebold, cuya camiseta tenía impresa la palabra "Ira", llevaron a la escuela bombas de fabricación casera que colocaron en la cafetería, y dejaron otras en sus respectivos automóviles.
La matanza de la Escuela Secundaria Columbine, perpetrada por Eric Harris y Dylan Klebold, abrió además el debate sobre las armas de fuego en Estados Unidos.
En los años siguientes, se produjo una avalancha de estudios para tratar de determinar la motivación que los dos muchachos tuvieron para cometer esta masacre.
