El optimismo es mayoritario incluso entre los que no votaron a Obama: el 58 por ciento de los encuestados que afirmaron haber votado a su rival, John McCain, también se muestran esperanzados ante la presidencia de Obama.
La inmensa mayoría de los estadounidenses considera que su país está pasando por un mal momento, pero tienen las esperanzas puestas en el próximo presidente, Barack Obama, para sacarles del atolladero.
Pepsi ha lanzado una campaña en Internet en la que los usuarios pueden subir sus vídeos con mensajes para el nuevo presidente, todo ello bajo el lema "Ayúdanos a refrescar América".
Pepsi ha inundado Washington y otras grandes ciudades de EU con vallas publicitarias y carteles en los que se leen palabras y frases como "Optimism", "Yes You Can" o "One for All" y en los que la letra "o" ha sido sustituida por el logotipo de la marca.
La decisión del presidente electo de no aceptar patrocinadores corporativos para el acto está obligando a las compañías a utilizar la imaginación y encontrar formas creativas para "colarse" en la ceremonia de investidura.
Cuando Barack Obama sea investido presidente, cientos de millones de personas seguirán la ceremonia en todo el mundo, y algunas empresas están decididas a no desaprovechar semejante escaparate para sus marcas.
En Baltimore, pese a las advertencias del equipo de Obama de apurar la marcha y abordar de nuevo el tren, un enjambre de periodistas se paró frente a uno de los vagones para registrar para la historia una fiesta de cumpleaños para Michelle.
Obama jurará el cargo como el primer presidente negro en la historia del país el próximo 20 de enero en las escalinatas del lado occidental del capitolio, bajo una vigilancia policial sin precedente.
Su llegada a Washington da inicio a una serie de celebraciones, tanto del mundo artístico como de grupos privados, y actos de servicio voluntario en la capital de la nación.
Obama y su comitiva encontraron grandes multitudes -sólo en Wilmington hubo más de siete mil personas-, que desafiaron las gélidas temperaturas para verlo pasar.
Al recorrer parte de la ruta que hizo Lincoln en febrero de 1861, Obama habló de las vicisitudes del ciudadano de a pie e hizo un llamado para que los estadounidenses se inspiren en el espíritu de lucha de los padres fundadores de EU.
La futura primera dama de EU, Michelle Obama, cumplió 45 años, en compañía de decenas de miles de simpatizantes, en un histórico recorrido en tren que culminó con una fiesta improvisada en su honor en uno de los vagones.
Obama llegó a Washington, en un tren contratado de la empresa Amtrak junto con 41 ciudadanos de a pie, en vísperas de un "megaconcierto" frente al monumento a Abraham Lincoln, el 16 presidente y gran emancipador que le ha servido de inspiración.
El presidente electo de EU, Barack Obama, culminó en Washington un histórico recorrido de 200 kilómetros desde Filadelfia, en el que pidió a las masas un espíritu de optimismo pero también les advirtió sobre los graves retos del país.
