Atentan contra lujoso hotel en Pakistán

Un camión cargado de explosivos destruyó el hotel Marriot, uno de los más custodiados de la capital de Pakistán, en un ataque condenado por la comunidad internacional.
La explosión ocurrida la noche del sábado destrozó el hotel y ocasionó un incendio que lo consumió durante horas.
El dueño del hotel acusó a las fuerzas de seguridad de negligencia al permitir que un camión de la construcción llegue cerca del hotel, y al no dispararle al conductor antes de que pudiera detonar los explosivos.
Las llamas salían por las ventanas y cuadrillas de rescate sacaban cuerpos y cadáveres ensangrentados de los restos del edificio.
La explosión dejó un enorme cráter, de unos 10 metros (30 pies) de profundidad, frente al principal edificio del hotel y causó un gran incendio.
Médicos de hospitales y funcionarios dijeron que entre los 250 heridos había 21 extranjeros, incluidos cuatro británicos, cuatro alemanes, dos estadounidenses y uno de Dinamarca, otro de Arabia Saudita y una más de Marruecos, Libia, Líbano y Afganistán.
El ataque ocurrió horas después de que el nuevo presidente Asif Ali Zardari pronunció su primer discurso ante el parlamento.
Las autoridades dijeron que el edificio principal podría derrumbarse en cualquier momento.
Las cuadrillas de rescate sacaron cadáveres de entre los escombros.
El primer ministro Yusuf Raza Guilani dijo que el camión cargado de explosivos había ido al hotel sólo porque las estrictas medidas de seguridad le impidieron llegar al parlamento y a la sede de gobierno, donde el presidente participaba en una cena con varios dignatarios.
El hotel, favorito entre los extranjeros y entre la clase alta de Pakistán, ya había sido atacado antes.
Salía humo de los restos del edificio luego de la explosión que dejó heridas a unas 250 personas también.
Ningún grupo se atribuyó el atentado de inmediato aunque las autoridades sospechan que fue obra de Al Qaeda o el Talibán posiblemente como advertencia al nuevo gobierno paquistaní para que deje de cooperar con Washington en la guerra contra el terrorismo islamista.
El ataque contra el establecimiento de la cadena hotelera estadounidense ocurre en medio de gran indignación en este país islámico por las ofensivas de fuerzas estadounidenses contra presuntas bases de guerrilleros, lanzadas desde territorio afgano.
La cifra de muertos por al atentado en el hotel Marriott en la capital paquistaní ascendió a 53 muertos.
