Cruento atentado en Pakistán

Varias motocicletas estaban de costado sobre el piso y las llamas ardían en el centro de la calle tras las explosiones.
La explosión destruyó las ventanillas y parabrisas del vehículo que transportaba a Bhutto e incendió un auto de la escolta policial.
La llegada de Bhutto a Karachi, tras ocho años de exilio, fue acogida por más de 150 mil personas que la vitorearon.
Entre las víctimas también habían al menos una treintena de miembros de las fuerzas de seguridad.
Los hospitales de Karachi se desbordaron de heridos y los servicios de emergencia estaban en alerta roja.
La mayoría de las víctimas eran seguidores del Partido Popular de Pakistán (PPP), liderado por Bhutto, que celebraban la vuelta de la ex dirigente.
Fuentes revelaron que unas horas antes del atentado las fuerzas de seguridad habían detenido a un hombre con una pistola cargada y un cinturón con explosivos.
Imágenes del lugar mostraban cuerpos esparcidos por la carretera, algunos moviéndose y otros inertes.
Las autoridades le habían pedido que emplease un helicóptero para reducir el riesgo de un ataque, en medio de amenazas de extremistas simpatizantes del Talibán y Al Qaeda, pero Bhutto hizo caso omiso a las preocupaciones.
La ex primer ministra estaba de regreso a su país tras ocho años de exilio. Bhutto resultó ilesa.
Una pequeña explosión inicial fue seguida por una enorme detonación a unos metros del camión que transportaba a Bhutto durante una procesión a través de Karachi.
Al menos 139 personas murieron y unas 550 resultaron heridas al estallar dos artefactos explosivos cerca del camión que transportaba a Benazir Bhutto, la ex primera ministra de Pakistán.
