Ocho personas han muerto en los choques desde que los manifestantes tomaron algunas partes de la ciudad a finales de mayo. Estos afirman que la policía y las fuerzas estatales _con frecuencia vestidas de civil_ le han disparado a los que protestan, generando hechos de violencia.
Entre los muertos se encuentra el periodista-activista estadounidense Bradley Roland Will, de 36 años, oriundo de Nueva York. Los manifestantes dicen que la policía local le disparó.
Ruiz aceptó haber errado, pero rechazó siempre aclarar en qué, además de reiterar que no pedirá licencia.
