Varios pasajeros aseguran que la cabina del avión se incendió antes de la colisión con el edificio, y testigos residentes en las inmediaciones del aeropuerto hablan de dos explosiones.
Las labores de rescate continúan entre los restos del avión, cuya tripulación estaba compuesta por dos pilotos y seis azafatas, que llegaron a Irkutsk, a 5 mil kilómetros de Moscú, tras tres horas y media de viaje poco antes de las 08.00 hora local.
En el Airbus se encontraban muchos niños que se disponían a descansar en el Baikal, la mayor reserva de agua dulce del planeta y uno de los destinos turísticos más importantes de Rusia.
Al menos seis niños fueron hospitalizados, entre ellos uno de 10 años, que se encuentra en coma debido a las quemaduras sufridas, y otro de tres, y se desconoce el número de menores de edad muertos en la catástrofe, informó el Centro de Medicina de Catástrofes de Irkutsk a la agencia RIA-Nóvosti.
Por el momento, se desconoce la suerte de algunos ocupantes, entre los que se encuentra el jefe del Servicio Federal de Seguridad (FSB, antigua KGB) en Irkutsk, Serguéi Koriakov, y varios extranjeros, en su mayoría chinos.
Según el Ministerio de Situaciones de Emergencia, unas 70 personas fueron rescatadas, de las que dos murieron y el resto se encuentran ingresadas en los hospitales de la ciudad, once de ellos en la sección de quemados, informó la agencia oficial Itar-Tass.
Los equipos de salvamento ya han recuperado los cuerpos sin vida de 124 ocupantes del A-310 de la compañía "Sibir" (Siberia), que cubría la ruta entre Moscú e Irkutsk, una de las ciudades más visitadas de Siberia debido a su cercanía con el lago Baikal.
Al menos 124 personas murieron al estrellarse anoche, durante la maniobra de aterrizaje, un avión Airbus con unos 200 ocupantes a bordo contra un edificio en el aeropuerto de la ciudad siberiana de Irkutsk.
